Bluetooth Low Energy connects the elements in a physical infrastructure. Beacons and, their smaller forms used in certain cases named tags (small wireless devices that are powered by Bluetooth Low Energy) constantly send out a signal that other Bluetooth-enabled devices can receive. Beacon signals are made by a combination of letters and numbers transmitted on short, regular intervals. This might sound complicated, but it actually means that the beacon sends out a message to any device that might be ready to receive that signal. Bear in mind that the beacon sending out this signal to the world might be stationary, perhaps mounted on a wall, or mobile, attached to someone or something moving around a space.

When a device receives the signal broadcasted by the beacon then any application can start working. This requires, not only receiving the signal, but processing it using software specifically programmed to do something leading beacon-based projects to requires at least two more components: a) a signal receiver and b) an application to transform that information into action.

A Bluetooth-enabled device that receives beacon signals and sends all the information received to the application is called receiver. Then, the cloud based application calculates the data transforming it to the desired outcome. 

A Location Analytics Platform collects all the data sent  by beacons, tags, and other sensors and translates them into actionable insights so that within a click you can see the requested information.
